Come join your fellow PDA Dallas-Fort Worth members and invited guests for networking and a panel discussion titled What you Need to Know Before you say Yes! Companies will perform their due diligence on you before they ask you to join their Board. You should do your due diligence before you accept a Board position. Our panel will discuss the steps you should take and the questions you should ask before you say yes. Holland & Knight (f/k/a ThompsonKnight) will be hosting us at their beautiful offices. You will have the opportunity to reconnect with fellow members and build new connections with our new members and invited guests.

Kevin Woltjen

Kevin Woltjen is a Partner at Clark Hill Strasburger where he counsels public and private clients in business and securities law matters such as advising clients in public and private offerings of debt and equity securities, advising companies on securities law compliance and reporting obligations, advising publicly traded companies on SEC and stock exchange reporting and compliance obligations. Mr. Woltjen also advises public and private businesses in structuring and implementing their strategic business plans, including merger, acquisition and sale transactions as well as corporate governance issues and commercial contractual transactions. He has represented companies involved in the energy, technology, financial services, telecommunications, hospitality and retail industries, and has advised clients in all stages of business development and growth. Kevin is graduate of DePaul University College of Law.

 

Bets Lillo

As a global business transformation leader, Bets spearheaded award-winning enterprise-wide change for Fortune 100 companies – AbbVie, Abbott Laboratories, AT&T and IBM. As the National Chair for PDA’s Board Director Committee, Bets recruited and led a team of executive volunteers to establish a centralized process that helped over 50 private companies across all ownership models to find directors with the skills and experience to support their strategies. In addition to her roles as angel investor, advisor and board director, Bets is excited to be an Executive in Residence at TCU’s Neeley Business School and an adjunct professor of global supply chain at the graduate level.

Jack Pfeffer has significant operating and governance experience with both large and small entrepreneurial companies. Jack’s background and his knowledge of employee ownership (ESOP’s) have led to his current role as an independent director and advisor for several fast-growing Texas based ESOP companies.

Pfeffer served as Vice President, Business Development and as a Corporate Officer for L.M. Ericsson N.A. during that company’s entry into the North American wireless and telecommunications switching markets. He led the leveraged buy-out of the Anaconda-Ericsson Inside Wire Division in Texarkana, Arkansas, and became Chairman and CEO of that new corporation. Before joining Ericsson, Mr. Pfeffer served in various capacities in the Strategic Planning, Program Management, and New Venture operations of Xerox Corporation. He participated in the acquisition and management for several early-stage technology companies acquired by Xerox; served a year in the White House on loan from Xerox; and led the acquisition of technology from Xerox Palo Alto Research Center for a new company, Sunrise Systems, that is now recognized as a laptop computer pioneer in the Mountain View, California Computer History Museum. Mr. Pfeffer began his business career with McDonnell Douglas as part of the production planning and contracts group responsible for the Gemini space mission, F-4 Southeast Asia modifications, and the F-15 Eagle aircraft contract.

Mr. Pfeffer received his Bachelor in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and his MBA from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a National Association of Corporate Directors Leadership Fellow, a member of both the National and Southwest ESOP Association, the National Center for Employee Ownership, and the Institute for Excellence in Corporate Governance at the University of Texas at Dallas. Mr. Pfeffer was named Private Company Director of the Year by the Dallas Business Journal in 2016.

Alex de Alvarez
Principal

Mr. de Alvarez has over thirty years of experience in physical security, cyber security, intelligence, and risk management in both the private and public sectors. As a former Chief Security Officer for two Fortune 500 companies, he is a seasoned professional in all aspects of security including strategic risk mitigation, insider threats, business continuity planning and crisis management operations Mr. de Alvarez is currently on the Advisory Boards of XK Group, a private company specializing in investigations and business intelligence, and Cyber Security Solutions, a private company begun by military veterans with cyber defense expertise. He is the former Chairman of the Energy Security Council and a Senior Member of the US State Department’s Overseas Security Advisory Council. While a Senior Executive at the US Department of Energy, his department received the Secretary’s Award for Excellence in responding to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Mr. de Alvarez was one of the founding members of the US Department of Homeland Security, serving on the White House Transition Team and as Chief of Operations for the Infrastructure Protection Directorate. He is a former US Marine infantry officer and a former CIA case officer. In addition to his long career in security and intelligence, he is an expert in cyber security and is a Certified Information Security Manager. Mr. de Alvarez attended the University of Dallas for both his BA in Political Theory and his Master of Politics and was a 2005-2006 Fellow at MIT’s Seminar XXI on Foreign Politics, International Relations and the National Interest.
