Patrick Whannell
Vice President, Employee Health & Benefits

Patrick Whannell has over 15 years of experience working with financial and human resource executive leadership teams to develop strategies to align the investment in their people with broader organizational goals. Pat leads the overall management and strategic direction of employers’ total rewards strategy and employee benefits program. He builds partnerships with his clients to create a long-term strategy and conducts strategic review meetings in collaboration with the service team to ensure goals and objectives are aligned.

Pat focuses on working with financial sponsors and employers in support of their organic and inorganic growth strategies, including the identification of transaction-related costs, risks, and opportunities. As practice leader of MMA’s Employee Health Benefits Private Equity and M&A Services practice, Pat leads the team that performs due diligence for prospective investments as well as formal engagements to improve the direction of the total rewards strategy post-close. Pat defines success as being a true partner to both internal and external stakeholders, ultimately delivering the value of MMA and broader Marsh McLennan at a consistently high level. Pat’s dedication to his clients and practice has earned him multiple internal nominations and awards over the years.

Pat is involved in various associations including Financial Executives International (FEI) and the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG). He is an active member in his community and as part of his commitment to give back, he represents a non-profit organization Spark-Y: Youth Action Labs as a board member.

Outside of work, Pat focuses on being the best parent he can to his two young daughters and enjoys supporting their various activities including gymnastics, skiing, swimming, and softball. He is an avid golfer andsnowboarder and enjoys spending time with family and friends whenever possible.

      


Dan Hanson
Senior Vice President

Dan Hanson is the Senior Vice President of Management Liability & Client Experience for Marsh & McLennan Agency’s Upper Midwest Region. He strives to elevate the client experience through technical expertise, and elevated service while supporting over 1400 colleagues, and thousands of clients in the Upper Midwest Region.

In his role as Senior Vice President of Management Liability, Dan designs programs to protect his clients by managing and reducing their executive risk exposures. He specializes in executive liability lines of insurance, including directors and officer liability (D&O), employment practices liability (EPL), fiduciary liability, professional liability (errors and omissions), and network security/cyber liability insurance serving and co-chairs both the XLP and Cyber National Centers of Expertise for Marsh McLennan Agency.

Prior to joining MMA, Dan held several underwriting, management and technical positions with St. Paul Companies and Travelers. While at Travelers he was the managing director for the public company D&O and professional liability book for the upper Midwest region.

Jeffrey Arnesen
Senior Vice President
Marsh USA LLC Private Equity and M&A Services

Jeff Arnesen is a member of the Central US practice of the Private Equity and Mergers and Acquisitions Services (PEMA) in Marsh’s Chicago and Minneapolis offices. Jeff is responsible for managing regional private equity and strategic relationships for strategic mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. Jeff coordinates transaction and portfolio insurance and risk management for private equity and corporate clients.

Jeff joined Marsh in 2017, after spending thirteen years working in the investment banking industry for Houlihan Lokey, with the last eight years in the Financial Sponsors Group covering financial sponsors in the Upper Midwest and Canada. Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, Jeff was President and Chief Financial Officer at M. A. Gedney Company. Prior to M.A. Gedney, Jeff was active for many years in the paper and packaging industry, including serving as Chief Financial Officer of Plainwell Shasta Holdings, Inc., President of Michigan Carton Company and Corporate Controller at Field Container Company, L.P.
