Overview

Please join us on Tuesday, August 30 for a conversation with private company founders, leaders, and Board members who have formed or joined a Board of Directors. As part of our commitment to education about board governance, they will share their "in the trenches" stories about their journeys from Board formation to onboarding to pivoting the business model as markets and economies change priorities. Enjoy the hospitality of our sponsor Bank of America in their exquisite dining room on top of their Corporate Center at Trade and Tryon Streets in Uptown Charlotte. You'll have networking opportunities before and after the program.

We encourage all members to bring, as their complimentary guest, another professional who would like to learn from experienced private company founders and Board members on how to remain flexible, nimble and relevant in an ever-changing operating environment accelerated by supply chain disruptions, advancements in technology, the digitization of commercial platforms, global crises, the political/regulatory landscape and more. Our Moderator will be Scott McGeein, Senior Vice President, Bank of America and panelists include Joe Jackson, Lihong Yu and Jordan Schindler whose bios are included below.

Thank you to our National Sponsors!

Lihong Yu
Chairwoman, PHT International, Inc
PHT International, Inc.

PHT International was established in 1993, but its story, its inception goes back further. Founder and President, Lihong Yu was born in Ningbo, China and raised through the Chinese Cultural Revolution in the late 1960s. Lihong’s parents were exiled to the countryside during the decade-long revolution when she was six years old. She remained in the care of her grandparents. It was during this time period that the most defining moments of her life came to be.

During the time with her grandparents, Lihong took on the responsibility of managing a house budget in order to keep a family of four fed. She sought, she purchased and she negotiated. Her drive was, indeed, a key factor to her family’s survival and success. Eventually, she was reunited with her parents and went on to Beijing Foreign Studies University.

It was in the early 1990’s that Lihong felt the east coast of the US was missing the economic benefits of working with the far east. With intention, drive and $5,000, she set out to establish PHT International, Inc., in Charlotte, North Carolina. PHT was one of the original pioneers to bridge the east/west gap by delivering cost effective, high quality chemical products directly to western companies. PHT focused on identifying high quality producers, inspecting cargo to ensure product and package integrity and delivering the products to the companies’ doors. A reputation for quality and reliability was built and continues to this day in its manufacturing endeavors.

In every aspect of the PHT organization, the legacy and drive of Lihong’s upbringing resonates. She built the company as she did with her experience during her childhood, layer by layer, experience on experience, and success upon success. Every challenge is met with the willingness to challenge it back to deliver solutions based on… People. Honesty. Trust.
