The Evolution of Family Office Boards: A Roadmap to Success

Schedule:

12:45-1:00pm CT - Networking Session
1:00-12:00pm CT - Main Program

Overview

PwC, in collaboration with the Chicago Chapter Private Equity and Family Office Committee, have prepared a program offering valuable insights about the different types of family offices and the important roles played by their boards. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the various structures and functions of family offices enabling them to make informed decisions about which type they may be best positioned to support. We will next focus on the importance of considering the value of establishing a board within a family office and outline the common board progression. This will include a discussion of the benefits of having a governance structure in place, as well as the role that a board plays in decision-making and strategic planning. The presentation will explore different leadership models, and the progression from a traditional approach of individual-led (patriarch/matriarch) offices and the benefits and challenges associated with this structure; family boards; the potential of combining a family board with an advisory board comprised of external professionals; and the significance advantages of having independent directors serve on the board including bringing diverse perspectives, objectivity, and professional expertise. As part of this we will explore the role of private directors within a family office and the opportunities they present in terms of industry knowledge, networks, and strategic insights. Our hope is that attendees leave with a clear understanding of the importance a board can play for an enterprise owning family and the various options available for structuring family offices effectively.
