Overview

The Tampa Bay Chapter of the Private Directors Association is pleased to present a panel discussion on “Board Accountability for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion”. Awareness of the need for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in all aspects of modern life has become top of mind for many organizations this year. In that spirit, this discussion will focus on how boards hold themselves, their CEOs and their organizations accountable for developing goals in this area and delivering on those goals in a reasonable amount of time.

James S. MacLeod
Non-Executive Chairman
CoastalSouth, Inc


James S. MacLeod is the Non-Executive Chairman of CoastalSouth, Inc., and previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of CoastalSouth and as the President and Chief Operating Officer of CoastalStates Bank. Mr. MacLeod serves on the Board of Directors of CoastalSouth, Inc., CoastalStates Bank, and CoastalStates Mortgage, Inc. Before joining CoastalSouth, Mr. MacLeod worked for Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation for 22 years, where he served as Executive Vice President in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mr. MacLeod is a Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sykes Enterprises, Inc. (SYKE) He is a trustee of the Virtus Allianz GI Funds and is Chairman of the Performance Committee. Mr. MacLeod is a trustee of the University of Tampa where he serves as Chairman of the Board and is on the Executive Committee. Mr. MacLeod is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the MUSC Foundation and a member of the Executive Committee. Locally, Jim is involved in both the Mitchelville Freedom Project and the Heritage Library. He is also a member of the William Hilton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. Previously, MacLeod was a member of the Board of Trustees of Hilton Head Prep School and he served as Chairman of that Board from 2006 until 2010. Mr. MacLeod holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Tampa, a Master’s Degree in City Planning from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters of Science in Real Estate and Urban Affairs from Georgia State University.

Mr. MacLeod also served as a member of the Federal Housing finance Agency “Duty to Service” Advisory Committee, was a participant in the Joint US Treasury/US Department of HUD Housing Finance Summit in 2010, served two terms on the Fannie Mae Advisory Board and was a Director of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America. He was appointed to the Wisconsin Real Estate Foundation, a Governor’s appointee to the Milwaukee Fair Lending Commission and the Wisconsin Mortgage Insurance Council.

Mr. MacLeod is married to Elizabeth P. MacLeod, has two daughters, Kimberly and Leslie and six grandchildren. Jim resides in Tampa, Florida and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

           

Kathryn Swintek
Managing Partner and Member
Golden Seeds Fund 2


Kathryn Swintek received the prestigious Private Company Director of the Year 2020 award from the National Association of Corporate Directors. She is a recognized governance expert with over 20 years of serving as an independent director of fourteen private and public companies and non profit organizations in fin tech, medical devices, digital media, industrials and financial services. Her roles include Board Chair, Audit Committee Chair and Compensation Committee Chair. Kathryn brings the lens of her work in venture capital to her boards, notably on innovation and strategy initiatives.

Kathryn is a Managing Partner and member of the Investment Committee of Golden Seeds Fund 2 which invests in U.S. based early stage companies founded and managed by women in the healthcare, technology, SaaS and consumer/e-commerce sectors. Also a Managing Director of the leading angel investment group Golden Seeds, Ms. Swintek is the Lead Instructor for its Knowledge Institute’s course on Due Diligence and co leads the training of deal leads. She has invested in over 30 early stage companies and is a trusted advisor to many entrepreneurs.

Ms. Swintek was a senior executive in corporate and investment banking in New York and London at the leading global banking firm BNP Paribas over a 20-year period. Under her leadership the bank gained leading market positions in underwriting leveraged loans for PE backed transactions in the US. In Fixed Income, she grew the High Yield Bond Group from start up to leadership in the market within two years. Prior to BNP Paribas, she was an executive at BNY Mellon and a predecessor bank Irving Trust Company as Banking Officer in the Middle East & Africa Division, Representative for France based in Paris, and Senior Vice President and Head of the Acquisition Finance Division. She was the first woman banking officer in the Middle East & Africa Division to which she was recruited within 5 years of joining the bank following college graduation.

Dedicated to advancing women in business, Ms. Swintek is an elected member of C200, the Women’s Forum of New York, IWF Suncoast, Belizean Grove, and the Economic Club of New York. She is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and of the Private Directors Association and is a former Chair and Treasurer of C200.

Ms. Swintek holds a B.A. in Economics from the College of Mt. St. Vincent and an MBA in Finance from New York University. Fluent in French, she is a dual citizen of the United States and France.

           

Dr. Alex Harris
Singer/Songwriter, Producer, Recording Artist


Alex Harris is a singer/songwriter, producer, and is a Cross the Line Music LTD/Orchard-Sony Music Entertainment recording artist as well as an academician, and humanitarian. In addition to his growing music success worldwide, Billboard hits, and seven #1 Singles, Alex Harris is co-founder of the Arts Conservatory for Teens (ACT). For more than 10-years, his vision has realized the dreams for thousands of youth and teens through an interdisciplinary creative curriculum that prepares students for high-school graduation and the workforce. ACT utilizes the performing and visual arts as well as creative critical thinking to educate, empower and enrich the lives of youth and teens, especially high school teens. After graduating high school, Alex Harris enrolled at LaGrange College, LaGrange, Georgia, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Human Services/Sociology and Psychology. He then went on to receive his Masters in Social Work (MSW) and Masters in Theological Studies (MTS) at Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, an extended graduate study in Adolescent Counseling at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and his Doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership and Curriculum Development at Nova Southeastern University, Miami, Florida. Alex Harris firmly believes in an artist’s social responsibility; the accountability of empowering local communities to provide equitable and equal access to all people, that each has the opportunity to excel and realize her/ his/their dream regardless of the person’s circumstance at birth. For Alex, it is his ACT institution that provides the platform for that social responsibility. He has made it his mission to empower the youth of socioeconomically challenged communities around the world. Key received her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and her BS from the University of Massachusetts. She is a founding member of the Private Directors’ Association, Tampa Bay, and co-chairs the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.
