Doug Baumoel is the Founder of Continuity Family Business Consulting, a leading family business consulting firm based in Boston. He brings an extensive background in family business, family office operations and governance to his work with clients. Doug started and ran businesses in both the U.S. and Europe and lived overseas for many years establishing and managing the European offices of his family’s business. Doug has applied more than 25 years of business experience to the development of a process for analyzing key variables affecting family business conflict. He is the co-author, with Continuity Managing Partner Blair Trippe, of Deconstructing Conflict: Understanding Family Business, Shared Wealth and Power. This recently published work is the ultimate guide to Continuity’s unique developmental approach for managing conflict in family enterprises. Doug has written for numerous professional publications and journals – including Family Business Magazine; the Thomson West Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Guide; Private Company Director magazine; and Negotiation Journal of the Harvard Program on Negotiation.

In addition to his consulting work, Doug is a nationally recognized speaker and has presented at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, Cornell University’s Smith Family Business Initiative, National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Family Firm Institute, American Bar Association, Attorneys for Family-Held Enterprises (AFHE), and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), among others. He serves on the board of One Family, a Massachusetts non-profit helping parents of families facing homelessness access educational and professional advancement.

Doug earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. He has been awarded the distinction of Fellow of Family Firm Institute (FFI), the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and is a Practitioner Scholar with Cornell’s Smith Family Business Initiative. He holds a certificate in Mediation from MCLE and is a graduate of the Director Professionalism program of NACD. Doug also served as President of the New England chapter of the Family Firm Institute.

Doug lives in Beverly, Massachusetts with his wife, and has a daughter and son college. He is an avid fingerstyle jazz guitarist, performing occasionally at charity events and jazz venues.
