Scott Albert
Operating Partner
Cofounders Capital

Mr. Albert has over 35 years of venture capital and operating experience, primarily working with early stage and growth technology companies. He is currently a Venture Partner with Cofounders Capital in Cary, NC, reviewing new investment opportunities and monitoring existing portfolio companies, including sitting on the boards of directors of two portfolio companies – EasyVote Solutions and Feedtrail. Over his career, Mr. Albert has been on the boards of directors of over 40 companies nationwide.

In addition, Mr. Albert is a Professor of the Practice at the Kenan Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) where he teaches Business Plan Analysis and StartUp-UNC in the MBA program. Mr. Albert is also an Advisor and mentor to several early-stage companies, including Altis Biosystems and Cydoc.

Mr. Albert co-founded The Aurora Funds, an early-stage venture capital firm in the RTP, NC in 1994 and led the Technology practice. Aurora managed nearly $250 million across five venture funds and focused on seed and early-stage financings across a broad industry mix of technology and life sciences companies. The firm invested in over 60 companies throughout the United States. Aurora investments that Mr. Albert was involved in included Accipiter, Inc. (acquired by CMG), Blackboard, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBB, acquired by Providence Equity Partners), Dataflux Corporation (acquired by SAS), Porivo Technologies (acquired by Gomez), StrikeIron, Inc. (acquired by Informatica), Unitrends Corporation (acquired by Insight Venture Partners). He also has operating experience as the CEO of a venture backed healthcare services company and as the CEO for almost 2½ years of one of Aurora’s portfolio companies, Centice Corporation.

Previously, he was the CFO of Entigral Systems, an angel-backed software company in Raleigh, NC. He was also an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Launch Chapel Hill, a university/business accelerator associated with UNC-CH. And he was an Advisor for the Adams Apprenticeship program affiliated with UNC-CH; and a Mentor for the Melissa & Doug Entrepreneurs Program, affiliated with Duke University, where he mentored undergraduate entrepreneurial teams.

Prior to founding Aurora, Mr. Albert was a General Partner at Criterion Venture Partners in Houston Texas; and an Associate at Golder, Thoma Cressey in Chicago; and an Associate at Booz, Allen and Hamilton in Chicago and New York. He has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Duke University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

 

           

Charlie Leichtweis

Charlie has more than 40 years’ experience in serving businesses as a C-suite executive, consulting advisor, and as a board member.

He’s the founder of Experts in How, LLC, a business consultancy focused on helping family-owned businesses with HOW to meet the challenges they face. He has identified the connection between the major elements related to creating and sustaining a successful legacy and HOW to manage those elements.

Charlie has global, strategic, operational, and financial leadership experience with a record of success in helping organizations achieve sustainable, profitable growth. Prior to Experts in HOW, Charlie shared his experiences as an advisor to clients as a Partner with Phoenix Strategic Advisors, and as Managing Director of Process Solutions, Inc. He has held a number of C-suite roles including, CEO and President of The Testor Corporation, COO of North American Wholesale Group of Blyth Inc., CFO of Rand McNally Book Services, and CFO and Comptroller of Rust-Oleum Corp.

Charlie has taught graduate school and is the author of top selling books on business leadership and legacy. He’s host of the podcast, “The Power of Respect,” a popular keynote speaker, and he serves as a member of the Board of Directors for several companies.

           

Suzanne Miglucci
Independent Director

With a breadth of expertise from CEO to board director and digital transformation expert, Suzanne Miglucci has a +20-year track record of leadership successes across publicly traded and privately held technology, retail and ecommerce companies. Ms. Miglucci’s professional background is strongly rooted in bringing new technologies to market, driving product development, re-branding organizations and transforming business models to realize greatest revenue potential and shareholder value. Suzanne currently serves as board director for private equity-backed technology firm, Terra Dotta, where she assists this software leader in the international education and travel risk sector. Suzanne also serves as Chair of OnBoardNC, a North Carolina-based organization focused on shrinking the boardroom gender gap. She also serves as board director for NACD’s Research Triangle Chapter.

Carrie E. Meigs
Managing Partner
Michael Best

Carrie is a seasoned healthcare attorney who regularly advises both established companies and healthcare innovators in regulatory compliance, credentialing, and reimbursement disputes. She acts as a strategic advisor to her clients and often serves as outside general counsel. Carrie draws on her extensive litigation experience when acting as an advisor to her healthcare and other clients and maintains an active litigation practice including appearances before state and federal courts and before regulatory agencies.

Carrie works with start-up and established entrepreneurs on contracting, drafting and negotiating agreements and in building corporate compliance programs. She also drafts and negotiates clinical trial agreements, informed consents and other clinical development agreements. Her compliance experience includes frequent advice on compliance with the False Claims Act, including the Stark law and the Anti-Kickback Statute, and on compliance with Corporate Integrity Agreements. Carrie also has experience representing healthcare providers facing decredentialing by government and private payers.

Carrie is an experienced first-chair litigator who focuses on resolving disputes for her healthcare, business, and municipal clients. She approaches each case with a focus on her client’s goals and priorities, and develops strategies to obtain the best possible outcome, whether that means pursuing a jury verdict or seeking alternative dispute resolution through arbitration or mediation.

Carrie has significant experience defending individual healthcare providers as well as institutions in medical malpractice litigation, in administrative proceedings including licensing board actions and in reimbursement actions. Her clients include practitioners such as physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, dentists, and oral surgeons; providers including hospitals and clinics; and insurers. Carrie’s robust litigation practice also extends to litigation and licensing matters for other professionals. She represents lawyers, accountants, real estate brokers, and other licensed professionals in courtroom litigation and in matters before their respective licensing boards. Carrie has represented municipalities, government entities, and public officers in complex cases involving constitutional claims and issues of immunity. Her expertise as a trial lawyer has been recognized by her admission to the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Before joining Michael Best, Carrie was a partner in a national general practice law firm, where she served as Vice-Chair of her firm’s Healthcare and Behavioral Health practices and represented healthcare professionals, businesses, and other professionals in complex civil litigation matters.

Lissa L. Broome
Burton Craige Distinguished Professor of Law
University of North Carolina School of Law

 
 

Lissa Lamkin Broome is the Burton Craige Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina School of Law. She heads the Director Diversity Initiative (DDI) which works with for-profit and non-profit boards of directors to increase the representation of women, people of color, and those who would add diversity to the board in other ways. The DDI offers an annual educational program, “DDI Board Boot Camp” and virtual, monthly short programs. Through the DDI’s database of potential diverse corporate directors, Broome helps connect talented diverse directors and corporations. She also directs the Center for Banking and Finance and serves as the faculty advisor to the North Carolina Banking Institute journal. Since 2010, she has served as the University’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the NCAA. Broome is a graduate of the University of Illinois and Harvard Law School.
