Business Succession Planning: Issue-Spotting for Private Company Boards

Schedule

Check-in and Networking - 4:30pm CT
Presentation - 5:00pm CT
Additional Networking - 6:30pm CT

Overview

Panelists will discuss the long-term and short-term planning and strategy needed to gracefully transition a business from its current owners to the succeeding owners.  The panel will consider succession by:  Internal company promotion, outside hiring, family inheritance, transfer by retirement, death or disability of an owner, and the best ways to mitigate stresses to the company in those situations. Panelists will also address the outright sale of the business to a 3rd party as a succession tool.

Topics will include insurance, legal, and business aspects:  Executive compensation to incentivize employees being groomed for succession, insurance matters, insurable events, company buy-sell agreements, succession and estate planning for the business owners, and mechanisms for selling the business to outsiders, or to a PE Firm.

Discussion will flag risks that Directors on Private Boards should issue-spot and bring to their Boards, educating board members on how to guide the business into the most viable and productive business succession strategy.

Panelists will include an insurance consultant, a business succession & executive comp lawyer, and a mergers & acquisitions advisor.  Each speaker has helped guide their clients, and their board of directors, successfully through multiple types of business succession transactions.
